Fonts are delicious and amazing things. They communicate so much in so little space. They are sophisticated, immature, stupid, amazing, etc. They are sort of like people… in fact, they are very much like people. I guess that makes sense since people are designing them.

A new favorite is a font called Chunk. This font is big, bold, and beautiful. I love the name becasue this font does carry plenty of chunk… in the trunk if you know what I mean. I love the attitude of this font: fun, creative and bold. You can download this font for free from The League of Moveable Fonts. I am so grateful that people like this put out free premium fonts for the world to use. You guys ROCK!

margin

Margin is a term that I have always associated with the outer space within a design. I have always appreciated designs with a lot of margin added to the edge of the design, like a book with an inch of margin. I feel that adding a thicker margin will add “breathing room” to the design, and thus make the design feel more balanced. Of course this is not an absolute rule, but a general rule I follow.

Margin has meant a sort of different thing for me lately. Margin has meant adding that “breathing room” to my life. I find that I need to add more margin to my life. Do you feel like you are always “busy” and always feeling like there is just too much to do, like there are not enough hours in the day? I know I do, and way too often. Are we meant to live this way? Are we meant to always be “on demand”? We are always checking our phones, our emails, looking for Wi-Fi at coffee shops so we can connect on Facebook and Twitter and answer a few emails. And yet when we begin to slow down a bit we start to feel not as important. What is up with that?

I am starting to understand the importance of slowing down. I am starting to appreciate walks with my 2 year old daughter a lot more. I starting to see the importance of spending time with friends without continuously looking at my phone or thinking about an email. If you have read this far down, then my many thanks to you! Thanks for reading my rant. More to come.

BrandWorld

All graphic designers need a handful of resources, places to go to for inspiration and for freebies. I love finding sites that teach graphic design and also give away fonts, coding snippets, and vector art.

This blog has primarily been a place where I can share my resources with anyone that stumbles across my site. We, the design community, need valuable resources. One such valuable site (to me at least) has been Best Brands of the World. I visit this site every now and then for either a logo idea, to download a font, or for some plain ole’ inspiration. The coolest thing about this site is that is allows you to download commonly (and not so commonly) used logos. And the greatest part is that the logo files are in .eps format! That is a treat for a designer.

I am really excited that they recently redesigned the site. The new site is so much easier to navigate and looks and feels less like an advert. Nice job guys and keep it up!
